Mission to the World

Yumiko and I work in Japan with Christ Bible Institute, but we get to Japan and serve there under the auspices of Mission to the World (MTW).

We began our career service with Asian Access. I originally went to Japan as a short-term missionary with LIFE Ministries back in 1987 and continued working with LIFE officially and unofficially in the years after that. LIFE changed its name to Asian Access about the time that we joined as career missionaries. More recently it took on a new name as A3. At the end of 2012, we transitioned from Asian Access to join Mission to the World. Both organizations do amazing work.

Mission to the World is the mission sending agency of the Presbyterian Church in America. We have been impressed with MTW’s kingdom-minded approach to fostering Spirit-led church-planting movements around the world. It is not a parochial organization with a narrow vision. Yet its efforts have a clear focus.

Mission to the World has been involved with Christ Bible Institute from CBI’s beginning. CBI got its start under MTW and operates as an MTW team. That the CBI team has included individuals from so many missionary sending agencies* is a testimony to MTW’s kingdom-minded approach.

With this kingdom-mindedness, its emphasis on God’s grace, its seriousness about theological training, and its rootedness in Reformed theology, Mission to the World is a natural fit for Yumiko and me.
