How You Can Support Our Ministry

Our progress so far: 88%

Our intention was to return to Japan before September 2013, but we need to raise a significant amount of new support before we can depart. Though we’ve taken a large, voluntary salary cut, there is still much more to raise. Our new goal is to return by July 4, 2014. That is an ambitious target, and we need your help to meet it.

Our getting back soon is urgent for the ministry. When we visited Japan briefly in February and March, students and staff told us how anxious they are for our return. The Christ Bible Institute board said that it is urgent that we get back as soon as possible. (See the video by Michael Oh, the CBI board chairman.) The Japan Partnership has declared our return one of its top priorities for 2014.

We need a team of people to help us reach our fundraising goal. Once we do, we can make departure plans and do the work the Lord has given us. As the graphic on the right attests, ours is not a solo act by any means! It’s a team effort.

Japan remains the world’s most expensive country, so our costs are significant and the task of fundraising is daunting, but it is in situations like this that God so often intervenes in a startling way. So we look forward to seeing his miracles through your generosity.

We welcome new financial partners in this ministry. If you see kingdom value in what we are doing, please prayerfully consider helping us fulfill our call. We encourage you to begin by pledging. Having done that, your gifts will count for more. Read on to see why or refer to the box below for different ways to pledge and to give.

Why Pledging Is Important

While donations are helpful, at this stage, pledges are key. Our start-up funds are all accounted for. (Thank you to everyone who has contributed!) Now, to sustain our work over the long haul (or at least through our next term on the field), we need pledges of regular support. Without those, we won’t be given permission to book our flights.

If you are considering a gift to our ministry, consider making it a pledge. You could break the gift into monthly, quarterly, or annual installments. Counterintuitive as it might seem, this would be even more helpful than getting the entire sum up front.

Pledge Matching Challenge

We now have all of the pledges needed to meet the challenge!

For a limited time (until the beginning of May 2014), new pledges were being matched—that is, doubled—by an anonymous donor. However, the arrangement was that that match would come into effect only if we raised $1,800 per month in new pledges. The anonymous donor would then pledge $1,800 a month. That should be enough to send us on our way. This was an unbelievably generous offer and a steep challenge.

The challenge deadline has passed. Thank you to everyone who pledged. We are awed by and grateful for the terrific response. Though the result was not definite until just about the latest we could push the deadline, enough was pledged to meet the conditions of the challenge. Once the matching pledge is recorded, we can begin preparing for our return to Japan in July. We praise God for his provision through the generosity of his people.

How to Pledge

There are several ways to pledge.

…with a Pledge Card

The time-honored method is to send in a pledge card. I can send one to you, or you can download a digital prayer card from the Mission to the World Web site.

Once you’ve filled it out, mail the card to

Mission to the World
1600 North Brown Road
Lawrenceville, GA 30043-8141

…by Email

Pledging by email is now possible. Just send a message with the following information to me.

If you have given to Mission to the World in the past and know your donor account number, that would be helpful. I’ll forward your message to Mission to the World.

…with Automatic Payments

If you arrange for a monthly electronic funds transfer or monthly credit card donation, this automatically counts as a pledge. You don’t need to do anything further.

How to Give

As there are several ways to pledge, there are several ways to give.

…by Check

You can donate to our ministry by check.

  1. Make the check out to Mission to the World.
  2. Write our account number, 11395, on the memo line.
  3. Optionally enclose a copy of our prayer card.
  4. Mail the check to
Mission to the World
P.O. Box 744165
Atlanta, GA 30374-4165

…by Electronic Funds Transfer

Mission to the World makes it easy to have regular donations made automatically. If you have questions about how this works, you can scan its answers to frequently asked questions. To set this up, just download the e-giving form, fill it out, and send it to

Mission to the World
P.O. Box 2589
Suwanee, GA 30024-0982

…by Credit Card

Perhaps the most convenient giving option is the credit card option. The drawback is that a three-percent fee is deducted from the donation.

To give by credit card, click this link to go to a page for that purpose. Our names and account number should be filled in automatically, so there is no need to add another designation for your gift. Just fill in the amount, click the Next button, and provide credit card information.

You can make a single donation or set up monthly donations if you like.

Thank You

Thank you for prayerfully considering becoming a partner in our ministry in Japan. We can’t do it without people like you.
